DOCTOR WHO in the

William Hartnell

1963 - 1966

These pages of The Radio Times are some of the best for me. Long before fanzine publications and Dr Who Magazine, before video and the onset of repeats, these listings, articles and photographs were often all we ever had of a programme’s past. When I started collecting Radio Times cuttings at the age of five, and more seriously at the age of twelve, I could never have imagined that I would one day hold a complete copy of The Web Planet, Dalek Invasion of Earth or Marco Polo in my hands. Such is the magic of ebay and some very generous friends that I now possess almost all of the Hartnell era in Radio Times. The following five books chart Dr Who’s inception in 1963 to the snowflats of Antarctica in 1966 when Hartnell was forced to step down from the role. Along the way, the Doctor drags eight companions across twenty nine stories and one hundred and thirty four episodes of television history and the Radio Times was there all the way.

I have tried to use Radio Times images all the way in their original 2¼ inch square film format but there are unfortunately large holes in the archive, so there are the occasional others from different sources. In order to show these in all their true glory, I have used a higher resolution so please be patient with page loading times.
